This says it all

I found this picture on http://werejustsayin.blogspot.com , and yes it says it all. Just because you have a camera don't get an attitude and walk around like you own the world thinking you are some bigshot arrrrrrteeeest. Generally I do not make such comments, but having seen so many camera owners with bloated personalities that I just had to post this image.

Holy !!!@#$^%$# Batman.

It's late and and I'm walking home form an assignment for Wire; all cameras put away, and low and behold it's Batman. I thought that this was a pretty good quality costume and the guy was really into being Batman. He charged to take a picture with him but he really worked for that money. The tourists were coached how to stand and behave as their friends took pictures. First I got my iPhone out but later decided to pull out my 5D. So here are the results of the Cape Crusader, the protector of children. Heaven knows kids these days need all the help they can get.

Although the collection received rave reviews, I was actually more enthralled with the collection of faces than the clothes.

I thought that the show as a whole presented the buyers with a new point of view, but as a photographer I could not resist a beauty shoot just there for the picking.

NYC.... Nima Show

This year I was pleasantly surprised by the inventiveness of the lighting designers at a few budget concious collections. The idea to keep the lighting costs down seemed common, and the result was often quite exciting. While the runways at the main venue in Bryant Park were illuminated in a way so that every stitch of clothing was visible, the off site venues were lit for a dramatic effect. The lighting at the smaller venues was often so moody that as a buyer I might have been thrown by the artful presentation. It was interesting to see how a budget constraint might affect the look of the garments.

Petrou Show

This was a fantastic show. Normally I really don't care for presentation shows , particularly after having photographed a number of them last season, but this year for some reason someone spread the word around that , the shows must be interesting form an artistic point of view. This year the lighting seems more thought out and maybe the clothes are better, which all plays a part in this and other shows. In this case , Petrou has really done well by making the background simple yet with some interest by placing several Kino's behind the models.

I think , also, that putting makeup on guys is right on the money here. Fantastic makeup, great clothes.

Caroline Seikaly Show

Caroline is a new talented designer and quite advanced at such an early stage in her career. She spoke to me about the problems that new designers face in trying to put together a show. Her hard work certainly paid off.

The Power Team

Anna Wintour and Hamish Bowles seen going into the tents at Bryant Park Fashion shows. I took both shots while dodging crowds, but it was fun capturing their image.

Notice the outstretched arm of the ever present body guard.

Deborah Turbeville show at Staley Wise NYC

The Past Imperfect; works on Paper from a Book show runs through March 20, 2010.

The show is really worth seeing because there are images from the Seventies , Eighties and Nineties when photography was an art created manually, unassisted by technology. No two prints of the same image were exactly alike. You could not load presets into Photoshop and go. Each print was painstakingly created by hand , often taking two days to produce.

I found Deborah to be a kind and gentle mannered ; not surprisingly her images reflect that personality.

This was a fun concert. From a technical point of view it kept my interests up and it was nice to be just inches away from the stage to fully appreciate the music, the showmanship and mostly to take some nice pictures. Vampire Weekend. Mary Mc Fadden

I love this shot . The colorful Mary Mc Fadden's clothes and the rich tones of the antiques at the American Folk Art Antiques Opening Night Gala.

Vampire Weekend is an up and coming band that recently hit it big. However , the organizers at the venue did the band a big disservice. Only 15 minutes were allowed for pictures. I don't think that the band is so big that it could let this photo-op pass by without greater coverage.

Martin Luther King Jr. , a Brooklyn tribute

Last Monday the remebrance and tribute to Martin Luther King Jr in Brooklyn was quite an event. The Howard Gilman Opera House was packed. In attendance, of the many speakers, were politicians Governor David Paterson and wife, Senator Charles Schumer, and Anthony Weiner.

Danny Glover and Kenny Muhammad

Danny Glover gave a tearful speech enunciating that Dr. King was a man of his generation and that he shared some of the same dreams with Dr. King. A unique artistic performance was given by Kenny Muhammad.

Back in the saddle at Getty/Wire

After a long Holiday season and a slow period in the entertainment industry's party/promotion season, I am happy to be shooting again. I was excited when I heard that Disney on Ice would be hosting the Special Olympics at Bryant Park in Manhattan. This assignment was quite exciting for a number of reasons , but particularly from a technical aspect, I found this to be a thrill. Lots of high speed action and composition challenges, evident here in the aerial shot of Sung ll Young . Michael Weiss , Natasha Kuchiki and Sung ll Young were the hosts.

Daryl Roth was honored with a drawing of her likeness that will hang at Sardis here in the city.

David Hyde Pierce and her son Jordan Roth were just a few of the stars present during the event.

However, the most thrilling event was the 2010 American Folk Art Museum's American Antiques Show Opening Night Gala. Martha Stewart and Lynda Johnson Robb , the daughter of President Lyndon Baines Johnson attended. Here Ms. Robb is wearing Lady Byrd's , her mother's fabulous necklace.
